What is Numerology?
Numerology is the study of the numbers present in our lives, it follows the belief in the divine relationship between numbers and their universal symbolism and inherent power. Because we view the universe through the science of logic, algorithms and patterns, then (so the theory goes), we should also be able to use the same principles to understand ourselves.
Meditation
This idea relates to a universe which is ruled by the laws of physics and once broken down, we are just left with the basic numerical elements.

The ancient mathematician Pythagoras believed that numbers have divine meanings and all of reality can be expressed in numerical terms. These numbers can then be used to help us to better understand the world in which we live and ourselves as individuals.

Mathematics
Mathematics is all around us. The earth, stars, galaxies and all celestial elements move in a predictable manner governed by the laws of physics. These determine day and night, seasons and weather patterns just to name a few. The whole universe is ruled by physical laws which can all be defined in mathematical terms.
Pi

Though mathematics we are able to predict the outcome of an event, for example, we can work out the location of a particular planet at any point in time because we know the laws of motion that the planet must follow. In a similar way (numerologists will argue) we can determine an outcome at any point in our lives, we don't need to wait until we have reached that point to find out the answer.

In order to fully understand numerology we first need to be able to understand mathematics and how it can be used to predict the natural world.

Numerology has very strong links to other New Age traditions such as astrology, tarot, (visit TarotQuest.net) wicca and alchemy. The astrological concepts of the celestial bodies being signifiers as to developments in our lives is determined by the mathematical nature of the cosmos.
New Age
The term New Age has come to mean any alternative belief system which has it's roots in a historical setting. It has been described as "a common denominator for a variety of quite divergent contemporary popular practices and beliefs". What we know as New Age really began to take shape in the late 1960s through the counter-culture of the hippies who wanted to turn their back on established religion and express freedom through a variety of pagan beliefs and rituals.
